We are currently looking for an ambitious, innovative colleague with a feel for teamwork, in replacement of another colleague, for the job of Breeder.

Ihre Aufgaben - Breeder

As a Breeder you will be working in an international breeding team, and together with another breeder you will be stationed in Quedlinburg (Germany). Here a small team of about 15 employees is focusing on breeding a number of ornamentals. As a Breeder you are responsible for developing, coordinating and implementing an effective breeding programme, resulting in varieties that meet the market’s needs. Your tasks include:

  • Drawing up the breeding strategy, the breeding programme and deciding the time frame, thereby taking responsibility for the implementation of the breeding programme, in close cooperation with the Breeder Assistant and the person responsible for cultivation;
  • Setting up and coordinating cross-breeding and selection programmes;
  • The digital processing and analysis of phenotypic and genotypic properties of plants;
  • The optimisation of breeding processes and strengthening and exploiting genetic data;
  • Initiating new breeding methods, making a practical transition to workable breeding projects;
  • Integrating the practical breeding processes into the company-specific logistics system and the breeding database.
You will work closely together with product management and breeding colleagues in the Netherlands.

Ihr Profil - Breeder

  • A PhD or master’s in plant breeding, genetics or related disciplines in life sciences;
  • Knowledge of and experience with molecular markers;
  • Knowledge of phytopathology and cell biology;
  • Experience with commercial practical breeding;
  • A fascination with data-driven breeding and demonstrable affinity for / experience with data systems;
  • Experience with ornamentals is an advantage;
  • Excellent communication skills and good command of spoken and written English and German;
  • Creativity, a targeted approach, innovative capacity and a hands-on mentality.
  • Willingness to travel.
